Tomaž Perše was born in 1975 in Slovenj Gradec. In 1999 he graduated from the Faculty of Economics in Ljubljana in two subject areas: Marketing and Finance. After completing his undergraduate studies, in 2000 he enrolled in a master’s degree programme in Economics, with a focus on Industrial Policy, which he successfully completed in 2004 with his thesis entitled “Decision Making of Foreign Investors in Investing in Slovenia”.
He started his career at the Agency for Economic Promotion and Foreign Investments under the Ministry of the Economy as a consultant in foreign direct investment. From 2005 to 2008 he was Secretary in the Office of the Minister of Finance, and since 2008 he has been Head of the Minister’s Office. In 2009 he was employed at the Tax Administration of the Republic of Slovenia in the Directorate-General’s Office, and in 2012 he headed the Directorate-General’s Office. In the same year he was appointed Acting Director-General of the Tax Administration of the Republic of Slovenia and performed this function for 8 months. In the years 2013 and 2014 he served as Deputy Director-General of the Tax Administration, and since the establishment of the Financial Administration in 2014 to 2016, he was the Head of the Directorate-General’s Office. Since 2016 he has been employed as Secretary at the Special Financial Office within the Financial Administration of the Republic of Slovenia.
Tomaž Perše has a wealth of experience in public finances as well as business finance. He passed a professional exam for supervisors, and was a member of the supervisory boards of several companies (Slovenska odškodninska družba d.d., Sava d.d., Lipica Stud Farm, etc.). As regards taxation he was appointed, among other functions, a member of the Expert Group on the merger of the Customs and Tax Administration in 2012, led by the Ministry of Finance. In 2016 he passed an exam for certified tax assessors on the efficiency of tax administrations according to the TADAT methodology at the European Commission in Brussels.
He was elected Member of the Fiscal Council on 21 March 2017.
